Luwero Police Intercepts Saloon Car Loaded With Suspected Stolen Cows, Goats

Police in Luwero district have intercepted a saloon car loaded with a Cow and five goats suspected to have been stolen.

The interception was done in Luweero town council late in the night. The vehicle in question is a Toyota Corona Reg. No. UAE.929V. It was coming from the Gulu direction to Kampala.

Acting Savannah region police spokesperson Patrick Lule says all the occupants took to the heels. He says their action, is a portrayal that they had stolen the animals.

Lule tells Uganda Radio Network (URN) that they have taken the animals and the vehicle to Luwero Central Police Station (CPS) as investigations continue. He asks locals to avail the force with information if anyone lost their animals.

Cattle theft has still proved rampant in the Savannah region that covers Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts. For instance, late May this year, an irate mob of residents in Nakaseke district killed a man who was identified as Amos Afaayo, a resident of Busunju in Mityana district for allegedly stealing a goat.

He was found carrying a sack but locals were suspicious. After being tasked to explain the contents, he lied to them that he was carrying Irish potatoes and beans, but the residents remained suspicious.  They decided to check only to find that he was ferrying goat’s meat.    As a result, an alarm was raised, attracting many who then pounced on him and beat him to death.

Afaayo’s killingin Semuto Sub-County happened just a day after irate locals at Kalagala village in Semuto’s neighboring Nakaseke Sub County had also killed a man after they intercepted a group of three men with five stolen cows.
