Govt Official Arrested Over Forged Academic Documents

A government official identified as Frank Bangirana, a senior treasurer at Kitagwenda town council in Kitagwenda district has been arrested by a team from the office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) over forged academic documents.

Forgery usually refers to making a false document with intent to defraud or deceive.

Bangirana formerly served as the chief finance officer at Kitagwenda district local government and is currently serving as the senior treasurer at Kitagwenda town council.

According to Rodney Ahabwe, the head of the IGG regional office in Fort Portal, Bangirana is accused of forging academic documents that allegedly used to acquire a job at Kitagwenda district local government as the chief finance officer when he was not qualified.

Ahabwe also revealed to Uganda Radio Network that Bangirana’s case was filed back in 2020 on case file HQT/CO/108/2020 but due to Covid-19 which hindered investigations the matter was paused.

According to the penal code act 347 cap 120, any person who forges any document commits an offence and is liable to a punishment of three years in prison. Bangirana is currently detained at Kamwenge central police station and will be arraigned before grade one magistrates court.
