Kenya On The Move: Uhuru, Raila To Launch Shs16bn Project

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is on Monday expected to launch the Mama Ngina waterfront project in Mombasa County together with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, who has also camped in Mombasa County since last week, Daily Nation reports.

Before launching the KSh460million (UShs18.8bn) project waterfront project, President Kenyatta will be at State House in Mombasa where the 2018 tourism performance report will be released by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala.

Mr Balala said the sector performed well “and that is why we decided to have the data released from State House.”

‘PUBLIC EVENT’

At the Mama Ngina event, politics are expected to take centre stage as local leaders and residents have been invited by the host governor Hassan Joho.

“We have seen people have tried to hype the event and want to bring in politics but it is a public event,” said Mr Balala.

Top officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Mombasa County government confirmed to Nation that Mr Odinga will grace the event.

Governor Hassan Joho, who has since reconciled with Mr Kenyatta, is set to share a podium with the President.

The presence of Mr Odinga and Governor Joho is set to spark 2022 succession politics in the region perceived as an opposition stronghold.

Sources from Mr Joho’s office revealed that President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga met on Saturday for private talks with speculations indicating that the meeting touched on a looming Cabinet reshuffle.
