A Judiciary driver, Barnabas Juju has appeared before the Anti-corruption court in Kampala and remanded to Luzira prison on charges of being in possession of contraband goods. Juju, a resident of Tororo Police Barracks and attached to Tororo High Court, appeared before the Anti-corruption court Grade One Magistrate, Esther Asiimwe.
He was charged with two offenses under the East African Community Customs Management Act of 2004. The court heard that on June 13th, 2023, in Kyambogo, Kampala district, Juju was found in possession of uncustomized goods, which included 38 bags of Baraf Rice, 435 bags of Pk and Juicy fruit chewing gum, and 149 packets of Big-G.
Some of these items were of Kenyan origin and had a duty value of Shillings 4.4 million. According to the Uganda Revenue Authority Prosecutors, Juju was found with the uncustomized goods in a motor vehicle registration number UG 0793 J. Juju pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and was remanded to prison until Thursday, June 22, when he will return to apply for bail.
