Gov’t Takes Possession Of MPs’ Ambulances As COVID-19 Cases Increase

Government through the Ministry of Health has taken possession of all ambulances purchased by Members of Parliament for their constituencies in order to boost ambulances owned by Government.

This is contained in a letter dated 26th March 2020 by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Diana Atwine (pictured) to the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige. In the letter, Atwine asks Kibirige to prevail over MPs to hand over their ambulances to boost Government’s fleet against COVID-19.

“Due to the outbreak of COVID19 in Uganda, the Ministry of Health requests Members of Parliament through your office to avail their ambulances stationed in different constituencies across the country to supplement Government efforts of tracing and evacuating suspected cases to the nearest treatment centers,” Atwine said.

She added that the MPs’ ambulances will be stationed at their respective districts and fuel will be provided at district stations.

The Ministry of Health  has confirmed that out of 225 samples run yesterday, 7 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed positive bringing total to 30 confirmed cases. 218 samples have tested negative.
