The Uganda government has allowed organisers of popular festival, Nyege Nyege, to go ahead with preparations for the four day event.
This confirmation was communicated by the country’s Internal Affairs minister, Jeje Odong. His statement was reiterated by government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo.
“Just spoken to Internal Affairs Minister Gen. J. J. Odongo, he states #NyegeNyege organizers should go ahead with prepations for their function. Further review meeting involving all stakeholders is scheduled for 10.00am 2moro,” Ofwono tweeted.
Earlier, the country’s Ethics minister had written to Jeje asking that the event be stopped because it had been linked Gay activities. Homosexuality acts are illegal in Uganda.
@Business Focus.co.ug thanks for the article but please and please stop labelling #NyegeNyege a gay linked fest. If at all you sent there a reporter last year or the previous two editions, he/she ought to have realised that whatever things done there are done by individuals because of the fest being international. No one influences another to do anything.(i did not see children there) Since you also followed Lokodo allegations that there are gays at Nyege, bring out the evidence in photo or video just like Blankets And Wine or ASFAs
Thanks for the feedback. We are just reporting. What crime have we committed?
