Sam Kibiribiri, a farmer from Kinaburimano village in Kihiihi Sub-county, Kanungu district has lost over 15,000 fish to  suspected poisoning. The fish was found floating on top of the ponds on Thursday.

Kibiribiri says that the four-month-old tilapia fish had cost him over five million Shillings, and he had hoped that he would get more than 10 million Shillings in profit. He says that each of his three ponds had 5,000 fish.

Kibiribiri says that he has since observed peculiar substances on top of the waters in the ponds as well as in the adjacent water source that flows into the ponds. He has now reported the matter to the office of the Kanungu Resident District Commissioner to investigate the incident which he links to a feud with his neighbour over an adjacent water source.

Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, the Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner says that he has already contacted the Kanungu District Fisheries Department to examine the visible chemical floating on top of the ponds and water source that is highly suspected to have caused the death of the fish.
