URA officials engaging traders in Kisekka Market
In a bid to improve taxpayer compliance among traders in downtown Kampala, URA embarked on engagements to enhance their understanding of taxes and related services.
The taxman engaged traders in Kisekka Market on their tax obligations relating to domestic taxes and customs.
Discussions centred on the usage of the EFRIS system, the basis of assessments, import procedures, and the basis of customs values. During the engagement, the area leaders agreed on the need for compliance from all traders and committed to closely work with URA to support their members with their tax obligations.
Robert Kisembo, the Chairperson of Kisekka Market, reiterated the need for a harmonious relationship between URA and the traders as a precursor to voluntary compliance.
Tasked with collecting over Shs29 trillion this financial year, URA has earmarked taxpayer engagement as a key strategy to achieving taxpayer compliance.
The engagements, code-named “duuka ku duuka,” commenced last month and have so far benefited traders in Container Village, Farmers Centre, Nakayiza Plaza, Galiwango Plaza, Kisenyi Shopping Centre, Juba Complex, Discount Plaza, Farmers Shopping Centre, and Bukoola Plaza.
