dfcu Bank has today taken a major step in its digital transformation journey after signing a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global technology leader IBM and IBM Platinum Partner Envision Global.

The MoU was signed at dfcu Bank Head Offices in Nakasero, Kampala, and formalizes a long-term strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the bank’s digital infrastructure and transforming how it connects with customers, partners, and the whole financial ecosystem.

The agreement focuses on developing and deploying an enterprise-grade software integration platform called the API Gateway. This platform will allow dfcu to securely and efficiently connect its internal systems with external partners, enabling faster collaboration, product co-creation, and innovation across various sectors, including banking, insurance, telecommunications, education, and other industries.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, dfcu Bank Chief Executive Officer Charles Mudiwa said, ‘The partnership is a critical pillar of the bank’s ongoing transformation journey, which is aimed at improving customer experience and ensuring long-term competitiveness. Additionally, upgrading core systems is essential to making the bank future-ready and better equipped to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

‘’Today’s customers are increasingly demanding higher levels of service, convenience, and reliability, driven by rapid technological change. To that effect, dfcu is focused on enabling customers to access modern banking services seamlessly, allowing them to bank wherever they are and whenever they want, without unnecessary barriers,’’ he added.

Through this platform, customers of both the bank and partner institutions will be able to access each other’s products and services, enhancing reach and value for all stakeholders’’.

IBM brings to the partnership its globally developed API Gateway technology, an enterprise-grade integration solution designed to support secure, scalable, and reliable connectivity. Envision Global, an IBM Platinum Partner, will be responsible for implementing and deploying the platform within dfcu Bank’s ecosystem, ensuring it meets agreed quality standards, timelines, and enterprise requirements.

The bank will use the API Gateway as a core component of its long-term digital transformation strategy, positioning it as a foundational digital asset.
