More parents have come out to accuse administrators of St. Martin Secondary School Janya in Mpigi district for vaccinating their children against COVID-19 without their consent.
David Kiyimba, a father of a sixteen-year-old Senior three student at the School told our reporter in an interview on Wednesday that he only learnt that his son was vaccinated on Tuesday after reading in the press that a child had developed multiple organ failure which relatives attribute to the jab he took in February when schools reopened after long closure.
Kiyimba says he was shocked at this revelation when people at his home said the boy had told them about being vaccinated when school closed for holidays in April.
Just last week he says, he had called the school deputy Head teacher warning them against vaccinating his child without being alerted.
Just like him, another parent who spoke to us on condition of anonymity for fear of his child being tormented said he had been told about the incident by another parent and then went to school to confirm with the child who reported to him to have been made to sign a consent form before being jabbed in March.
Warning that parents are contemplating coming together to sue the school, he said his child is only making 17 in September, too young to make an independent choice whether to get immunized or not.
These revelations are only coming out a day after government announced dropping earlier hatched plans of having students vaccinated.
However, when our reporter visited National Drug Authority (NDA) that is supposed to take a record and investigate cases related to drug adverse reactions, the Public Relations Officer Abiaz Rwamwiri acknowledged having received a case of a student currently being admitted in Kiruddu National Referral Hospital.
He said, records show the boy was vaccinated with Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine but investigations have not yet concluded to ascertain whether for sure his critical illness is connected to the jab.
So far, he says, the only vaccine approved for use among those below 18 years of age in the country is Pfizer.
At the Ministry of Health, Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze, the Director Public Health told this reporter that in future, they will vaccinate children but they will be taken to vaccination points by their parents at their respective parishes. This will be in round three of vaccination and 6.6million children will be vaccinated.
Meanwhile, both the Head teacher and Deputy of the Mpigi based school didn’t respond to our calls and messages by press time.
