Business came to a halt at the Stanbic Bank Kabale branch on Monday as the police cordoned off the premises to investigate an attempted robbery over the weekend. A detective from Kabale police station, speaking anonymously, revealed that unidentified robbers attempted a break-in during the night between Saturday and Sunday.

They allegedly cut through the bank’s roof, situated along Kabale’s main street in Central Division, Kabale Municipality, trying to access the safe. However, the thieves left without success. Subsequently, on Monday, detectives sealed off the bank premises, denying access to customers. Other officers guarded the bank, instructing customers to leave.

By approximately 3:30 PM, customers began expressing frustration over the prolonged investigations inside the bank.

They demanded access to the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) for electronic transactions but were once again denied by the police.

Yosia Tiyeitu, a concerned customer, arrived at the bank around 10:00 AM to withdraw money. He was informed of an issue within the bank and by 2:30 PM he was yet to access the money, which he said had disrupted his schedule.

A security officer from SGS security company, also stationed at the bank dismissed the reporter and prevented communication with bank officials, citing the matter as unimportant for publication. As of the time of filing this story, police officers remained at the bank, and neither the bank nor the police had issued an official statement.

Last month, unidentified robbers targeted the Pride Micro Finance Bank Kabale branch on the same street, stealing four guns and attempting to access the safe. However, the robbers abandoned the guns and fled the scene.
