BoU Admits Its Payment System Had A “Temporary Malfunction”, Now Stable

The Bank of Uganda (BoU) has revealed that on July 17, 2019 at 10:30am, the Central Bank experienced a temporary malfunction of the Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS).

“It should be noted that this WAS NOT a system crash as has been portrayed in the media,” Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, the Governor, BoU says in a statement dated July18, 2019.

He adds: “There was a brief disruption in transaction processing in the morning which was resolved shortly thereafter. The Bank of Uganda payment systems remain stable, fully operational and reliable.”
