The National Drug Authority (NDA) has for the first time spoken out on the fake cancer drugs that have flooded the Ugandan market.
This follows media reports that there are unscrupulous people or quacks who dupe cancer patients with fake concoctions that flush out cancer cells.
In a statement sent to Business Focus, NDA admits that the unscrupulous operators or quacks take advantage of the patients’ vulnerable health conditions and dupe them to abandon their prescribed medication for drugs that have unverified therapeutic claims or fake.
“We urge patients to have confidence in their medicine as prescribed, complete their dose and to report any adverse events to qualified health providers,” NDA says, adding: “Patients should also always buy drugs from NDA licensed outlets and not hawkers who dupe them with products that are fake and harmful to their health.”
