Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has implemented Direct Routing Operations (DRO) within the Entebbe Flight Information Region (Ugandan Airspace) resulting in a number of economic and environmental benefits.
According to UCAA, key benefits include reduced flying distances for airline operators and reduced carbon emissions from fuel burns, among others.
In order to fully comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s global and regional Air Navigation requirements, UCAA says the following have been implemented:
Operational Meteorological Database (OPMET), a major milestone in the implementation of ICAO Meteorological Information Exchange Model. This is one of the enablers for System Wide Information Management (SWIM).
Electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data (eTOD) area 2, 3 & 4 for Entebbe International Airport with a full World Geodetic-coordinate System – 84 (WGS-84)
Developed the Roadmap for the Transition from Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to Aeronautical Information Management (AIM).
Signed and implemented service level agreements with Data Originators to ensure the accuracy, timelines and completeness of aeronautical data and information.
