Umeme Limited, Uganda’s leading power distributor has revealed that its long-serving  Chief Operations Officer, Florence Nsubuga (pictured) has quit for greener pastures.

“The Company at its Board of Directors meeting held on 16th  November 2023, received notice from Ms Florence Nsubuga of her intention to leave the Company and take up a new career in the Sector,” Shonubi Musoke & Co Advocates, the Company Secretary, confirms in a statement dated 17th November 2023.

Florence Nsubuga has served as the Chief Operations Officer  since 2012 and as an Executive Director of the Company since March 2015.

“The Company would like to thank Ms Florence Nsubuga for her exemplary and dedicated service to Umeme and the electricity  supply industry. The Company would like to wish her the best in her new role,” Umeme says.

Florence Nsubuga has been a  key member of Umeme’s senior management team. She has a wealth of experience in the operations of the Company. She holds a Master’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning.

It should be noted that Government  informed Umeme, the prime electricity distributor that it will not renew its 20-year concession once it expires in 2025.

Government is expected to pay  Umeme US$215M (approximately Shs800bn) in buyout costs.

UMEME has since reduced on its investment and the quality of service has deteriorated after Government’s decision not to renew the concession.
