Presidential candidate Kabuleta Kiiza Joseph, whose campaign is hinged on ‘Financial Freedom’ for all Ugandans has lashed out at the Electoral Commission for failing to facilitate the security guards they issued to presidential candidates, noting that it is straining the candidates’ campaigns as they have to divert their resources to feed and provide accommodation to the officers.
Kabuleta made the remarks today at Boma Hotel in Kitgum on the second day of his campaign.
Kabuleta said there is need for the Electoral Commission to reconsider their arrangement because the candidates are already facing the high cost of digital campaigns to book space on radio stations as well as financing the campaign team.
It should be recalled that last week, the Electoral Commission assigned each presidential candidate a campaign vehicle and 10 counter terrorism police officers for security during the campaign period.
However, Presidential candidates are required to facilitate the security team, an arrangement the candidates have protested.
The development comes at the time Kabuleta lashed out at the Electoral Commission for setting up his campaign with spies, saying the security guards he was allocated were simply chosen to spy on him.
He however said that although the security guards he was allocated are spies, his campaign team will work to maneuver around the scheme, and called on EC to facilitate these police officers because they too need financial liberation like all Ugandans.
Kabuleta also urged EC Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama to walk the talk by addressing all complaints raised by presidential candidates.
