Government through the Ministry of Internal Affairs is under consultations of reviewing deadline dates of phasing out all the old passports which are to be replaced by the East African Community electronic passports.
The Ministry had set January 31st 2021 in relation to the EAC’s dates of January 15th 2021 as the deadline for phasing out all old passports but the process got affected with the COVID-19 lockdown.
The phasing out of usage of old passports will see the East African passports take over to all citizens in East Africa.
Addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala today, the Ministry’s Spokesman Jacob Siminyu said that they will soon come up with the reviewed deadline dates after the consultations from the six partner states of EAC.
This is after Ugandans protested the move, saying that COVID-19 has affected work and movements.
