The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has certified ten (10) more companies to produce sanitizers. This is aimed at protecting consumers from buying sanitisers that do not comply with standards and are harmful to their health, in the wake of COVID-19.
The ten (10) companies are an addition to the 28 companies that were earlier certified, bringing the total to 38 companies producing 43 brands of sanitizers.
In a statement issued by UNBS on Friday 17th April 2020, companies includes: Premier Distilleries Limited, Movit products, Hoima Sugar Factory, Saraya Manufacturing (U) Ltd, Wandaz Products Limited, Rene Industries Limited and Mavid Pharmaceutical Industries Limited among others.
According to Barbara Kamusiime, the UNBS Senior Public Relations Office, UNBS is providing free technical assistance together with free sanitizer and disinfectant standards to sanitizer manufacturers and five (5) more companies producing seven (7) brands are still pending approval for certification.
The UNBS is a statutory body responsible for developing, promoting and enforcing standards in protection of public health and safety, and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.
