The Judiciary has said Principal Judge, Dr Yorokamu Bamwine’s convoy has been involved in any shooting incident contrary to some media reports.
“Our attention has been drawn to some online media reports about Police shooting at a vehicle said to have suspiciously trailed the Principal Judge, Dr Yorokamu Bamwine’s convoy on Wednesday night around Kamyokya, Kampala,” Solomon Muyita (pictured), Senior Communications Officer, Judiciary says.
The reports further indicate that the Police at Kira Road intercepted the said vehicle, shot and injured one of its occupants, and arrested the other occupants, following an alarm call from the security detail of the Principal Judge. The reports have been attributed to a deputy Police spokesman.
However, the Judiciary says the Principal Judge and his security detail were not anywhere around Kamwokya or Naguru in Kampala on the date of the said incident.
“Dr Bamwine and his team were away in Eastern Uganda on official duties between Tuesday and Friday (15-18 October 2019). The Principal Judge and his security detail are neither aware nor have they reported any incident related to being trailed anywhere by suspicious people/vehicle. Any such suggestion is just alarmist and false,” Muyita says in a statement dated October19, 2019.
He adds that if at all the reported shooting indeed happened, then it is a case of mistaken identity on the part of the Police.
“The Judiciary is working with the Police to verify the source of the information and the motive behind linking the said shooting incident to the Hon. The Principal Judge,” he says.
