Police Recover 30 Guns In 18 Operations

The Police Flying Squad Unit-FSU and Crime Intelligence-CI have recovered 30 guns in eighteen operations conducted across the country. 

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga (in featured photo), said the guns were recovered in the past five months through intelligence led crackdowns. He says majority of the guns have since established to have been stolen from private security guards.

 According to police, preliminary information shows that the guns were stolen from guards on duty or on their way home. Seven of the guns were recovered from Gulu in Aswa region, four in Lamwo in North Kyoga region, four in Soroti in East Kyoga while three were recovered from Luweero in Savannah and Kabale in Kigezi region.
 
Enanga says seven people were picked in the operation for illegal gun possession. Police says some of the guns are linked to violent crimes that have been occurring across the country. 

  Of recent, armed thugs moving on motorcycles have killed at least 10 mobile money operators and hardware shops attendants. Last week, a mobile money operator was killed in Nama Sub County in Mukono district. 

Her killing came a week after Juliet Nabasa was shot dead in Lubaga Division in Kampala. Two mobile money operators Harriet Nalwadda and her worker, Moreen Nakabubi were shot dead in Zzana along Entebbe Road.

In Nansana Municipality, three workers of Cheap Hardware store were shot dead by thugs that blocked Hoima highway. Their operation took 30 minutes. However, police that was a stone throw away didn’t intervene.
