283 Shortlisted In West Acholi for LDU Recruitment

283 youth have been shortlisted for the recruitment exercise for Local Defense Personnel in the West Acholi sub-region.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recently announced the recruitment of another batch of 10,000 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel countrywide. The recruitment targeted youths from the age of 18 to 29 with a minimum of Uganda (Ordinary) Certificate of Education.

Applicants were required to submit academic papers and applications to the office of the Resident District Commissioners for scrutiny.

Susan Akany, the Omoro Resident District Commissioner revealed that an overwhelming number of applicants, many of whom possessed falsified documents applied to join forces but only 57 were shortlisted.

Akany explained to URN that the culprits who forged the requisite academic credentials were later pardoned and counseled against such criminal acts and later released to return to their respective homes.

Over 500 candidates in Gulu District and Gulu City applied for the LDU slots but only 107 were shortlisted. Stephen Odong Latek, the Resident District Commissioner said the majority of applicants came from the City.

In Nwoya District out of the over 150 applicants who applied from Nwoya, only 63 were shortlisted while in neighbouring Amuru, 56 out of over 300 applicants were selected. The Resident District Commissioner, Geoffrey Oceng Osborn says they were given 52 slots but 56 were shortlisted.

The shortlisted applicants will convene at the UPDF 4th Division barracks in Gulu City to undergo medical mental and physical body checks as well as a road run, to test endurance and body fitness.
