We Are Cleaning Police; It Had Been Infiltrated By Criminals Under ‘Kayihura Leadership’-Museveni

“..People were committing these crimes with impunity because Police had been infiltrated by criminals and people who had been compromised in some ways,” President Yoweri Museveni said during his State of the Nation Address at Kampala Serena Hotel today afternoon.

The President was clearly hitting former Inspector General of Police (IGP) General Kale Kayihura although he didn’t make a direct mention of his name.

He noted that the Force had been compromised and now Government has taken on the duty to professionalize and revamp both Police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces, to rid the security bodies of criminals.

The President also used the occasion to boast about the improved security in the country hailing the men in uniform for their efforts to maintain peace in the country, citing an example of the just concluded Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations in Namugongo where 3 million people are estimated to have attended with no major criminal incidence recorded at the ceremony.

“As I assured the country that crime wave will be defeated, UPDF works with other security agencies to curtail or deter any acts of lawlessness. The recent peaceful holding of Martyrs day where an estimated 3million people turned up, showed that Police and UPDF already have good capacity,” he said.

The President also said that the NRM Government remains committed to ensure there is a secure and peaceful Uganda that has come about by promoting and upholding patriotism, democracy ad good governance as core values for national socio-transformation with significant focus having been placed on professionalizing the army and modernizing Uganda People’s Defence Forces and building Uganda Police Force.
