URA To Political Aspirants: Get Tax Clearance Certificate To Avoid Being Blocked For Nomination

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has urged Ugandans planning to stand for various elective positions in the upcoming 2021 general elections to get a tax clearance certificate from the tax body to avoid being blocked for nomination by the Electoral Commission.

This has been revealed by URA Commissioner General, Doris Akol (pictured), who says this is the right time for aspiring politicians to start processing the certificates.

“I want to emphasize that before someone is allowed to run for a political office, they will require a tax clearance certificate. Electoral Commission is enforcing this requirement and I would appeal to all those who have political ambitions to come and streamline their tax affairs,” Akol said.

She added: “This is the right time for you to sort out your compliance; if you have not been filing, paying taxes; this is the right time to sort out your tax obligations and ensure you are able to get a tax clearance certificate that will be required of you before you can proceed with your political ambitions.”
