UNEB Scout Tests Negative For Ebola

A Uganda National Examinations Board-UNEB scout in Kakumiro District who presented Ebola-like symptoms has tested negative for Ebola.

The scout had been deployed on Tuesday at Kings Way Primary School in Igayaza town council to monitor the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The scout, whose particulars have been concealed reportedly developed severe sickness.

He complained of severe headache, general body pain, and fever and started bleeding through the mouth. He was taken to Igayaza Health Center III for treatment before he was evacuated to Mubende hospital.

The school authorities in the district isolated a UNEB Chief Invigilator who had been deployed at the school after she allegedly got into contact with the suspect. They allegedly traveled on the same motorcycle with the UNEB scout on Tuesday morning.

Edward Wamani, the Kakumiro District Disease Surveillance officer says results from the blood samples taken from the suspect have turned negative for Ebola.

According to Wamani, they were notified about the results by the Mubende Ebola taskforce.

He has called for calm among residents and other education stakeholders in the district now that the samples have turned negative.

Wamani has however cautioned the public to be extra vigilant and adhere to all the guidelines put in place by the health ministry to guard against the disease.
