Umeme: New Connections Backlog Will Be Cleared By Year End

Uganda’s largest power distributor, Umeme Limited has revealed that new connections backlog will be cleared before end of year.

This follows Business Focus’ story indicating that Umeme had run out Yaka meters, affecting new customers/connections and consequently business.

In an exclusive interview, Stephen Ilungole, the Stakeholder Relations Manager –Media and Communications told Business Focus that they will work through the festive season to ensure that new connections backlog are cleared before 2017 ends.

“All new connections backlog will be cleared before end of the year. Our teams will work throughout the festive period,” Ilungole said.

On claims that there are fake Yaka meters (blacking out so much that customers can’t load power), Ilungole said their meters are genuine and duly certified by Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).

“We have all the certification documents,” he said, adding: “Our teams regularly inspect and service meters to ensure they’re in perfect condition.”

He added that their Yaka supplier (Conlog from South Africa) is not only global, but also reputable.
