Uganda’s budgeting process for the forthcoming Financial Year 2020/21will be carried out through electronic system in an effort to avoid the spread of COVID-19 caused by corona virus, Rebecca Kadaga, the speaker of parliament has announced.
Kadaga says there will not be officials from different ministries to physically present their policy statements to specific sectoral committees.
She adds that ministries will send documents electronically to members of different committees who will study and analyze them except in a few instances when a few officials from ministry will be called in for more clarifications.
Kadaga has further halted the work of the Accountability committees including Public Accounts committee both central and local government, committee on commissions, statutory Authorities and State enterprises (COSASE) to allow MPs time to concentrate on budgeting process.
This was after Kasilo county lawmaker, Elijah Okupa raised the matter.
Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija (pictured) is expected to present to the nation the 2020/21 national budget forecast to be Shs39trn in June this year.
