Uganda Registers 40 New COVID-19 Cases As Disease Starts To Penetrate Communities

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has announced 40 new COVID-19 cases from samples tested on 31 May, 2020. All the 40 cases are Ugandans.

In a statement signed by Dr. Charles Olaro on behalf of Director General Health Services, the Ministry said 23 cases are among samples tested from Points of Entry while 17 cases are among samples of contacts and alerts.  

“Total confirmed cases are 457,” the Ministry said.

“Additionally, 31 foreign truck drivers (11 Tanzanians, 19 Kenyans and one Eritrean) tested positive for COVID-19 and were handed back to their respective countries of origin,” Olaro said.

The Ministry explained that out of 40 Ugandans, who tested positive, 20 were truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu Point of Entry, one truck driver arrived via Padea Point   and 17 are contacts of previously confirmed cases.

“Currently, there are 303 admitted COVID-19 confirmed cases in 15 referral hospitals in the country,” the Ministry said, adding that they are all in stable condition.

To-date Uganda has registered a total of 72 COVID-19 recoveries and zero COVID-19 related deaths recorded.
