Top Pastor Detained For Holding Unlawful Assembly

A top Pastor has been arrested staging an illegal assembly in Katakwi district.
James Emongit, the Pastor of Prayer Power Church was picked up on Thursday evening together with four others for allegedly holding an unlawful assembly and pretending to be removing charms from a resident’s home.

The others are Douglas Elungat, Immaculate Achuna, a tailor and Mary Amuge.

Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, says the suspects were picked up when they were found purportedly trying to remove charms planted in a home in Ocorimongin trading center in Katakwi Sub County.

Odongo says Pastor Emongit was reportedly hiding the charms in his pocket, which he kept dropping secretly in a hole he had dug to dupe onlookers that he was removing them from the ground.

Police suspect that Emongit and his team have been conning people off their money pretending to be removing bad omen and charms planted in their homes.

Joseph Oromait, a member of the family that invited the pastor to remove charms from their home, says the group first went to their home in Guyaguya Sub County before heading to Ocorimongin market.
