Police in Bujjuuko, Mpigi district have finally apprehended a school staff member who recorded and shared a video instructing learners to re-act a sexual act they had earlier been found doing.
According to information obtained from two different sources in police who requested to remain anonymous, the arrested person is identified as Juliet Nantongo who also happens one of the administrators of the school and a wife to the school director.
One of the sources said that police first arrested the husband, Abdul Ssenkandwa Muwonge alias Mulangira, who later led them to the wife.
“When the husband was arrested, he was required to give details on the whereabouts of his wife but later, relatives willingly handed Nantongo over to Bujjuko Police Station, and the husband was released on bond,” the source told our reporter.
By the time of filing this story, police were still consulting the Resident State Attorney in Mpigi to advise on charges that can be slapped on Nantongo as the hunt for other suspects continues.
“In the video, there are more than one female adults and investigators are out there hunting for the second teacher who is still at large,” the source added.
However, our reporter was not able to establish whether the arrested is a trained teacher.
Last week, social media was awashed with an embarrassing video showing two little minors involved in sexual act. With this video making rounds, Humphrey Tumwesigye, a concerned citizen and parent, wrote to the Uganda National Teachers Union (Unatu) seeking reprimand for the adults, believed to be teachers, behind the filming of two pupils being forced by a cane wielding woman to engage in sexual acts.
On Friday, police working with National Children Authority and Ministry of Education were able to establish that video was recorded from Vision Academy Nursery and Primary located in Muduuma sub county, Mpigi district.
By the time police reached the school, which turned out to be unlicensed and operating illegally, the staff members had fled, leaving back around ten pupils under the care of the school security guard.
Hearing that police have held a suspect in this matter, Tumwesigye, a lawyer by profession who raised the first red flag, noted that he feels relived. He added that this case should teach a lesson to teachers and other adults who are entrusted with caring for children.
Meanwhile, while briefing journalists on events of Friday, police spokesperson Fred Enganga also observed that teachers need to increase active supervision of learners to ensure their safety and prevent such immorality before it manifests in school settings.
