Bayer South East Africa through its Environmental Science subdivision has partnered with Quality Chemicals Limited (QCL), to distribute Fludora® Fusion, a highly efficacious indoor residual spray pesticide for malaria vector control in Uganda.

The launch of Fludora® Fusion, hosted at Protea Skyz Hotel Naguru is the latest of (many previous) Malaria interventions orchestrated by Quality Chenicals Limited in Uganda.

Speaking at the press launch, Ajay Mahadik, the General Manager of Quality Chemicals said the introduction of Fludora Fusion to the Ugandan market is timely.

“The product matches the current customer needs, as it provides a premium solution for malaria vector control. Our partnership with Bayer South-East Africa ensures and demonstrates our commitment to providing consistent malaria control solutions for Uganda. We have also realized the need to, and therefore will offer continous technical training support to the professional pest control industry on indoor residual spray application,” explained Mahadik in reference to Quality Chemical’s fight against Malaria.

The Director of Public Health at the Ministry Of Health, Dr. Daniel Kyabanyize, commended Quality Chemicals Limited for leading the fight against Malaria Control.

He urged the public  to join the fight against malaria as a concerted effort  since companies like Quality Chemicals and Bayer South East Africa have come out to partner with the government to provide the tools, services and other necessary components for better health.

“The government is merely enforcers, coordinators and regulators of the fight against Malaria epidermic,” said Dr. Kyabayinze, on behalf of the Permanent secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine.

George Baguma, a director at Quality Chemicals Limited and a renowned champion in the fight against Malaria said that the product is now available for private consumption.

“We commit to the continuation of innovation and invention directed towards strengthening the fight against Malaria in Uganda. We will continue to identify, vet and consequentially bring in new and trusted partners to further concretise our efforts in the fight. We have been executing a series of Indoor Residue Spraying (IRS) product dissemination with the MOH in over 20 districts. The launch today is to get the private companies to know that the product Fludora® Fusion in 100g sachet now available for distribution; which whilst applying, is to be mixed with 10L (in a sprayer without constant flow valve) or 7,5L (in a sprayer with constant flow valve) of clean water and applied on a 250m2 of wall-surface ,” Baguma said.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Jimmy Opigo, the assistant commissioner Health Services-Malaria at the Ministry Of Health, reiterated the need for the public to get involved in the fight. He recommended the tactic of communal Malaria-control planning, noting that; “if individuals pool resources and contract a trusted pharmaceutical entity in the calibre of Quality Chemicals Limited, and Bayer International, the Malaria fight will be won.”

Daniel Mburu Kangethe, a Technical Sales Representative from Bayer Environmental Science for Sub-Saharan Africa, stated that the launch of Fludora® Fusion in Uganda is part of a formidable plan by the company to protect 103 million persons against Malaria and neglected tropical diseases by 2025.

“Fludora® Fusion is the first Indoor Residual Spray (IRS) product for malaria vector control with two unrelated active ingredients that have two different modes of action. Application of Fludora® Fusion WP SB therefore, provides better efficacy against susceptible and resistance mosquitoes. It also boosts of a robust and consistent, longer, residual periods on applied surfaces than the application of either active ingredient,” Kangethe said.

“Africa accounts for 90% of deaths globally. Malaria is amongst the leading causes of the deaths in Africa. With mosquitoes becoming resistant to one-end active ingredient’s and factors like environment-based exposure, there was need to come up with a wholistic control. That was the basis of the Fludora ®Fusion formulation. Fludora® Fusion has been thoroughly tested in many geographies in Sub-Saharan Africa including here in Uganda and has proven to be effective against both susceptible and resistance mosquito species and is well suited for malaria vector control. It is also important to note that Fludora® Fusion WP SB is easily applied using W.H.O approved sprayers on many types of wall surfaces (mud walls, plastered walls and plastered plus painted walls) providing longer residual control, explained Kangethe.

For over 24 years, Quality Chemicals Limited has led the Ugandan fight against Malaria. QCL’s 360 degree mechanism of prevention, testing and treatment of Malaria has orchestrated sequences of proven solutions in the fight against Malaria.
