Police, Army Speak Out On Kayihura ‘Home Siege’

Uganda’s military and police have spoken out on rumors that the home of the country’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) General Kale Kayihura has been besieged by military police.

Army spokesperson, Brigadier Richard Karemire and his police counterpart, Asan Kasingye have dismissed the reports urging the public to ignore them.

“Please ignore the misinformation circulating around that UPDF is deployed around at the residence of IGP Gen Kale Kayihura. It is totally false,” Karemire wrote.

Police retweeted his message to emphasize that the reports on social media were false.

On Thursday evening, social media was awash with reports that military forces had been heavily deployed at the home of the IGP in Muyenga, an upscale suburb on the outskirts of the capital, Kampala.
