Orient Bank Ltd has partnered with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) to rally Ugandans to donate blood with the aim of saving lives.
The blood donation drive that started on Thursday at the bank’s parking lot located along Kampala road will climax on Friday.
The bank’s staff including top bosses led the drive.
Emmanuel Njuki, the Head of Marketing and Communications at Orient Bank said that the drive is part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility and it is timely considering the fact that the national blood bank stock is going down.
“National blood bank stock has really gone down and we decided to work with Nakasero blood Bank to mobilize for more blood,” Njuki said.
He added: “Everyone will need or have someone who will need blood at some point in life. We have both a prime location and a good network of staff, customers and people of good will from neighboring community. We intend to use it [to get blood].”
According to World Health Organization (WHO), Uganda needs about 340,000 units of blood annually although less than 200,000 units are collected annually.
