NRM Youths To Unveil Museveni Challenger Ahead Of 2021

A group of youth leaders who claim to subscribe to the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party in Masaka district have vowed to fight President, Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidature.

The youths under their umbrella association dubbed NRM for Justice, say other people should be given chance to challenge Museveni.

Speaking at a media briefing in Masaka on Saturday, Tariq Nkata, the Spokesperson NRM for Justice, said they have already identified a suitable candidate within the party to tussle it out with Museveni should he insist on contesting for presidency.

Nkata said they will unveil their candidate an appropriate time. He said they appreciate the good work Museveni has done for Uganda, but they think it is high time he left the floor for another person to steer the country.

The youths also called for the amendment of the NRM party constitution to provide for a full time party chairperson, saying the current party chairman who also happens to be the President is too busy to attend to party issues.

“Whenever you go to the state house looking for the party chairperson you are told to go to Kyadondo at the party headquarters. When you go to Kyadondo you are told to go the state house we are fed up of this confusion. The party chairman should be separate from the president so that party related issues can be solved without a hustle” Agnes Namukasa, an NRM youth leader from Lubaga division said.

Abdullah Ssenabulya, the Katwe/ Butego Division NRM Youth leader, said they intend to traverse several parts of the country telling the masses about the dangers of fronting Museveni as a sole candidate.  He says the party leaders didn’t consult them before endorsing Museveni as the sole NRM party candidate.

The NRM Party Publicity Secretary, Rodgers Mulindwa has asked the youths to calm down, saying the party is soon rolling out district conferences for local leaders to discuss Museveni’s sole candidature.

“We are going to move the entire country between this month and July conducting district conferences discussing various issues and we expect that will be among the issues to be discussed. Anyone with any queries should hold them until then,” he said.

Mulindwa says that the youths are not informed. He challenged them to read and internalize the party constitution because it’s just a coincidence that Ugandan’s elected the NRM party chairperson as president.
