Muhakanizi Slams Expenditure On Gov’t Cars, State Burials

The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Keith Muhakanizi has revealed that facilitating vehicles for government officials and state burials are increasingly becoming burden to government.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Local Government Committee last week, Muhakinizi, who is also the Secretary to the Treasury said Parliament needs to redefine the persons who are entitled to have lead cars because some government officials allocated lead cars do not deserve them.

Muhakanizi noted that there is need to streamline the issue of state burials because they also affect the national annual budgets.

He says he will not release funds for abrupt state funerals in the coming financial year unless they are budgeted for.

“…There must be a policy to streamline state burials. Muhakanizi is not entitled to state burial and when I die they take my body to the village,” Muhakanizi said, adding that many unqualified people are being accorded state burials and this must stop.

Some committee members supported Muhakinizi, saying that some ministers don’t deserve to have lead cars and police needs to be investigated on claims that they hire lead cars to individuals a long Entebbe road.
