Kagadi police are holding Deogratious Begumisa, a 50-year-old resident of Rugashari sub-county, for allegedly poisoning seven goats belonging to his wife, Christine Nyarabakire to death. Nyarabakire had purchased the goats using funds from the Parish Development Model-PDM.

It is alleged that on September 20th, 2023, Begumisa requested Shillings 50,000, which was part of the Shillings 1 million she had acquired under the Parish Development Model-PDM, to go drinking. However, Nyarabakire declined the request.

The following day, Nyirabakire used the PDM funds to purchase seven goats for rearing. Begumisa reportedly became furious and purchased poison, which he administered to all seven goats, resulting in their immediate deaths. He then went into hiding.

Nyirabakire later reported the incident to Kagadi police, prompting them to launch an investigation and search for the suspect. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson stated that they successfully apprehended the suspect on Tuesday and took him to Kagadi Central Police Station, where he is currently detained.

Hakiza further explained that the police have preferred charges of injuring animals against the suspect and forwarded his case file to the Resident State Attorney for review and further guidance.
