Finalists at Makerere University have resumed online lectures following complaints about delayed resumption by some colleges.
Last month, the University released a schedule for the resumption of learning activities which included online lectures for finalists on August 30, 2021, online examinations for continuing students on September 13, 2021, and physical classes for medical students on August 16, 2021, among others.
During the past two weeks, however, students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security, and School of Statistics among others raised complaints that lectures had not started as promised.
The resumption of lectures was around the same time that colleges were working at administering online examinations and training students on how online exams were to be conducted.
Shadrach Wesike from the school of Statistics notes that out of five-course units, at least two lecturers commenced teaching through zoom while others upload work on the University e-learning platform.
Henry Nsubuga, a class representative from the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences explains that his department picked on last week after he took the initiative to follow up with lecturers since the time had been released.
Martha Ssebandeke, another finalist from the school of Education explains that, unlike the previous lockdown where they studied only five-course units online out of the fourteen, this time all the eleven lecturers have taught them online.
According to the University program, continuing students are expected to join the online lectures next month after their examinations which end on September 30. Finalists that had the opportunity to resume earlier enough are already attempting course works that will contribute to their final exams in November.
