M7 Accuses Accounting Officers, Auditors Of Corruption

Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni has said Accounting Officers and Auditor are to blame for the rampamt corruption in the country.

The president made these remarks on Thursday during the 12th Annual National Internal Audit conference today at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.

“So when we talk about misappropriation of funds it is mainly the accounting officers and auditors who are culpable because they are in charge of these finances,” Museveni who opened the conference said.

He added, “Unscrupulous accounting officers are reinforced by auditors because the auditors trace anomalies but sometimes collude to cover up.”

He advised the participants to ensure that they keep their records clean and avoid making friendships with thieves.

“I am happy that most of the auditors are young and fresh. I advise that you do not stain your records. I therefore appeal to you not to stain your record by allying with thieves at your workplaces. Right attitude, trustworthiness and honesty are very important in this profession, the skills come second,” he said.

His remarks came on the same day a local daily carried a headline in which the president revealed that the country’s Finance Ministry is full of thieves.

“I hear people say “the political head of the institution forced me to do this (misuse funds)” but i want to tell you that politicians have no authority to order you. It is even in the Constitution,” Museveni said on Thursday.
