List: Police Name & Shame Arcades Violating COVID-19 Guidelines

Police has  started naming and shaming places and buildings in Kampala that are violating  the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19, thus putting the lives of Ugandans in danger.

Addressing the press at Uganda Media Crentre today, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga (pictured) read out a number of shopping centers that are already black listed for not implementing the set SOPs.

Some of the shopping places include Nansamba Arcade, Bhatia Tower, E-Tower, Superior Tower, Trade Link Complex, Trans-Nile Plaza, Sun City Plaza, Zainabu Azizi Plaza, Mini price plaza, Itunga House, Kasiwukira Plaza, Majestic Plaza, Qualicel House, God’s Bless Arcade, Ssembatya Arcade, White House Arcade,  Skyrat arcade, Damba Complex and Sawuriyako plaza, Rafiq Arcade, Kabale Arcade, French plaza.

Meanwhile, over 1300 boda bodas were impounded by police last week around Kampala for violating covid-19 guidelines and beating the curfew time. Enanga says such operations on boda boda and other vehicles shall continue.

 Enanga also revealed that 45 people lost lives last week as a result of murder and robbery among other criminal incidents that were recorded by police country wide.

According to the police, 56 criminal cases were recorded with arrest of 39 people suspected to have participated in the incidents.

Among the deaths were the 10 juveniles who were struck by lightning in Arua district.

The police report indicates that the cases of domestic violence are on an increase, sexual violence and murder

Among the unfortunate incidents Enanga mentioned include a one Edward Byabakwata 45years  who defiled three juveniles of his wife including one who were aged five, three and two months of age.

 Enanga also confirmed the arrest of one Neka Patrick, 40, who is alleged to have inserted a five inch nail into the private parts of a juvenile aged 18 months.

Enanga said the incident was a result of domestic violence that ensued between the man and his new wife who had come into this marriage with her young baby girl. It’s here that Enanga cautioned parents against relaxing on protecting the girl child.
