KCCA Carnival To Cost Shs1.3BN

The Kampala City Carnival is to cost Shillings 1.31billion, the Organizing Committee Chairperson, John Ddumba has told the City Authority Council. The three day carnival kicks off this Friday with a charity concert to raise money for the refurbishment of KCCA primary schools. KCCA manage s 79 primary schools on behalf of government.

The concert will be held at Kololo Independence grounds. The key performer at the concert is Tanzanian music star Diamond Platinumz. The charity concert will cost Shillings 417 million but only UGX 370 has been committed by sponsors. The city authority projects to collect Shillings 289 million that will go towards renovation of schools. The second event is a motor rally taking place on Saturday.

The motor rally will cost Shillings 170 million but only Shillings 95 million has been received from sponsors leaving a short fall of Shillings 75 million. The city authority anticipates collecting only Shillings 10 million in revenue from the rally. The festival will costs Shillings 723 million but only Shillings 509 has been received from the sponsors leaving a short fall of Shillings 214 million. The authority expects to collect Shillings 547million.

In total, the festival will cost Shillings 1.3bn but KCCA has only received Shillings 976 million from sponsors leaving a short fall of UGX 334 million. The Organizing Committee Chairperson, John Ddumba did not explain how the budget short fall will be funded. The festival is funded by the private sector, which in turn gets advertising space.
