Kadaga Lashes Out At Police For Impounding MPs’ Cars Over Stickers

The Speaker of Uganda’s Rebecca Kadaga (pictured) has attacked Police for stopping and impounding cars of MPs because of failure to have authorizing them to move during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The Speaker Police during today’s plenary sitting, noting that stopping MPs from traveling, even when in some cases, they have shown their Identify Cards identifying them as MPs, amounts to stopping them from conducting their legislative duties.

“We had agreed that if you show your Identity Card, you should be allowed to proceed. Unfortunately, MP Mark Angel Dulu’s car was impounded because it had no sticker despite him showing his ID,” Kadaga said.

She added that although Parliament wasn’t considered an essential service, MPs doing critical work for the country like processing the budget, tax bills as well as passing and approving supplementary budgets.

“I am directing the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure MP Dulu’s car is released immediately and ensure that instructions are issued to all Police points to allow MPs to move. They’re coming to work, they’re not coming to dance in town, they’re here doing national duty,” Kadaga said.
