Health Worker Applauded For Climbing Tree To Send Data Of Immunized Children

Ugandans have applauded an unidentified health worker who was pictured up in a tree in Buhweju to send data of immunized children to the health Ministry headquarters, describing him as innovative and the right work attitude. This is because the network was poor in the area.

The rare picture that is trending was shared by Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health.

“Unique problems require unique solutions. Our health worker climbs a tree to send data of immunised children in Buhweju. I like the commitment. Telecoms, we await your intervention to ease communication,” Dr.  Atwine said.

Children under the age of 15 are being vaccinated against measles, rubella and polio.

Authorities are hoping to immunise 18 million children in the four days of mass vaccination programme.

The government has said that anyone found trying to prevent their children from being vaccinated will be detained, in line with the sanctions outlined in the immunisation act.

This campaign is in response to a measles outbreak last year.

In the past, mass immunisation exercises have faced resistance from different communities such as religious groups that do not believe in vaccinations and parents who do not understand why their children have to have several different vaccinations.
