Free Zone: Turkish Investor Fails To Utilize 18 Square Miles Of Land In Nakaseke 5 Years Later

Turkish Investment Group, ASB has failed to utilize 18 square miles of land Nakasseke district that was given out by Government through the Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA).

The land was allocated to the company  five years ago.

The shocking revelation was made by UFZA Executive Director,  Hez Kimoomi Alinda while meeting MPs on Finance Committee chaired by Rubanda East MP, Henry Musasizi  to explain why this huge land is not utilized for investment yet many people were evicted  from it.

A group of investors known as ASB from Turkey who wanted to establish a export processing zone in livestock was allocated the land  five years ago but they have not showed up  .

UFZA boss Alinda told the Committee Members that the owners of ASB Group had no required capital to invest in the project.

He said that the Uganda Free Zones Authority is in process of sourcing for another investor to utilize the land.

Nakaseke North MP, Syda Bbumba told  the Committee that people were evicted from this land at Kaweweta for a  government project and  people are land less in the area.

MPs are concerned on how the Uganda Free Zones Authority sources investors .

The Uganda Free Zones Authority is a body corporate under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. It was established following the President’s assent to the Free Zones Act, 2014. The Agency is responsible for the establishment, development, management, marketing, maintenance, supervision and control of free zones.

The Free Zones law was set up with the aim of promoting exports, increasing employment and increasing commodity processing from trading raw materials to finished goods but with due regard to environmental impacts during product processing.
