Former MP’s Political Assistant Charged With Theft Of Shs 440 Million

Kabale grade one magistrate’s court on Friday evening charged Angello Twinomuhangi Bagorogoza, for stealing shillings 440 million from hisformer boss’s bank account, Hon. Mary Paul Turyahikayo.

Bagorogoza, a resident of Nyarushanje in Rukungiri district acted as an official political assistant for Turyahikayo, former Rubabo county member of parliament until December 2020 when he denounced her and joined Namanya Naboth’s camp.

Turyahikayo, the Rubabo County National Resistance Movement party flag bearer lost to Namanya of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party for the seat of Rubabo county member of parliament.

On Monday this week, Bagorogoza was arrested by police from Rukungiri and today afternoon brought to Kabale court. In the evening, he was paraded before Grade one magistrate’s court and charged with theft contrary to sections 254 (1) (2) (a) and 261 of the penal code act.

The prosecution told the court that between October – December 2020 Bagorogoza withdrew shillings 440 million from Turyahikayo’s account supposedly to give it to Godfrey Rwihunga, the husband of Turyahikayo, meant for buying land located at plot 35 block 18 Nyabikoni ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality but instead, he stole it.

Magistrate Pascal Olupot, granted bail Bagorogoza of shillings 10 million cash.

After being released, Bagorogoza denied the accusations arguing that the matter is politically influenced.
