Equity Bank clients were on Tuesday gripped with fear after it emerged that unscrupulous people had accessed the bank system and made transfers.
According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon.
Some clients who were affected by the hack received SMS on their phones indicating that money had been transferred off their accounts to mobile number.
A bank source our reporter spoke with confirmed the development on condition of anonymity saying there was a point when even staff members could not access their accounts.
The source added that they were shocked when some customers stormed the bank when the anomaly happened.
It is not clear how much was taken by the hackers.
Business Focus has already contacted Equity Bank for a formal comment, but it is yet to come through.
