Court Hands 17-Year Jail Sentence To Teacher Who Killed His Wife, A Former Nurse With IHK

A Teacher  who last week pleaded guilty before Nabweru Magistrate Court to  killing  his wife Viola Kakai; a former nurse with IHK hospital, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Chief Magistrate Patricia Amoko  has  sentenced 46yr old Simon Wanyakala for  manslaughter which occurred on 1st / August/2020 at their home in Bbumbu Kitezi zone -Kasangati town council, where he unlawfully hit his wife on the head with an axe before their children.

The Couple has 3 children aged  12 , 10 and 3.

Evidence proved that on the fateful date accused heard the sound of a vehicle that dropped off his wife around 9pm and got angry.

It was the children who alarmed the  community that rushed Kakai to hospital from where she was pronounced dead.

Days later , Wanyakala recorded an confession statement before a Grade One Magistrate at Buganda Road court admitting to have killed  his wife before  their children

While sentencing Wanyakala, Magistrate Amoko noted that the offence of domestic violence is a rampant one that calls for stringent measures, especially in this case the weapon used;  the body part that was targeted and the crime having been committed before children.
