Uganda’s opposition leader Kizza Besigye has announced that he will not stand in the upcoming presidential election.
He made the announcement while speaking to supporters at the Forum for Democratic Change offices in the capital, Kampala.
Local media reported that the supporters took away the podium while demanding that Mr Besigye picks presidential nomination forms.
There had been uncertainty whether the opposition leader will vie for presidency.
He has in the past challenged President Yoweri Museveni in four elections.
“I have agreed with my colleagues that we get someone to lead plan A and I will lead plan B but never imagine that I can leave the struggle,” Dr Kizza Besigye said as he announced that he won’t be standing in the next election.
