Africa Rugby Sevens: Uganda Progresses To Next Round

The Uganda Rugby Cranes have progressed to the next round of the Africa rugby sevens championship after defeating Burundi 71-0 at Kyadondo Rugby ground in Lugogo.

Phillip Wokorach who scored four tries and made eight conversions helped Uganda silence neighbors Burundi in their quest to win the 2022 championship.

Uganda was in high spirits in their opening game, by the end of the first half, Uganda was already leading 38-0 before adding 33 scores to make a full-time report of 71-0 which saw Burundi out of the championship.

Uganda was joined by the six other winners of their respective fixtures to make the quarter-final of the tournament. Other teams that won their first-round fixtures were Kenya, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, and Burkina Faso.

According to the tournament format, the top seven teams that won their respective games joined by the best loser will again be grouped into two to battle in the trophy category.

Uganda is now pitted in group B alongside Burkina Faso, Tunisia, and Zambia while group A has Kenya, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and Namibia The top two teams from each group will grab the semifinal slot.

Meanwhile, the remaining teams that lost their openers are also grouped in the championship category to battle for Africa rankings. These include Mauritius, Cameroon, Botswana, Ghana, Senegal, and Burundi.
