Education authorities in Luwero District have stormed Luwero School of clinical officers and effected the closure of the institution.

The authorities led by the Luwero District Inspector of Schools, Yusuf Kamulegeya, on Monday delivered  a notice of closure dated 5th February 2024 to the administrators of the institution.

In the notice, the administrators have been reminded that according to the Ministry of Education and Sports, no school/institution should operate without a valid license/ registration.

In the notice seen by this website, the administrators have been ordered to cease operations with immediate effect, noting that failure to comply will attract severe penalties.

“Now your School/Institution on 5th day of February 2024 has been operating without authority and you are advised to cease operating with immediate effect,” the notice of closure reads in part. “Failure to comply with this will attract severe penalties.”

Kamulegeya told our reporter that they were implementing a directive from Ketty Lamaro, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Sports after writing to them that the institution had been closed.

The development follows findings of an investigation confirmed by Henry Isoke, the head of the State House Anti-Corruption unit-SHACU into the operations of St. Denison Health Training Schools. In a January 17, 2024 letter to the PS Ministry of Education and Sports, SHACU said it found out that many illegalities were going including the lack of a license.

This was then followed by a January 31, 2024 letter to the Proprietor from PS Ketty Lamaro, suspending operations at the school in question.

This is in addition to directing the Director of Education Standards and Commissioner Health Education and Training to take necessary actions to effect the above decision.
