Rain Washes Away Mud Shed That Cost Govt Shs17M To Build

The Statehouse anti-corruption unit officials were on  Friday left speechless after inspecting the remains of a 17 million Shilling “office” built with mud and wattle (pictured) in Suam town council in Bukwo district.

The structure was supposed to be an office for cattle revenue collection in Suam cattle market but it was abandoned after heavy rains washed away part of the soil used for building it.

“How much was used for building this structure,” Peter Ndomugyenyi the team leader for the state house anti-corruption squad in  Bukwo asked the locals in disbelief.

Betty Chemusto, one of the residents, told the team that when they tried to complain to the sub-county officials of Suam about the structure, they were  branded as anti developmental members of the community.

“It is good you  people have also come so please go and tell the president that whatever he is  sending to help the people of Bukwo fight poverty doesn’t reach to us,” she said.

Gloria Chelangat, another residents  of Suam town council said many things are done in Bukwo district  without the community involvement.

“For us our work is to watch and keep quite because however much you complain  no body comes to the rescue,” she said.

But Ndomugyenyi assured the people of Bukwo that the government is going to deal with all corrupt officials who have caused financial loss in Bukwo.

Samuel Hashaka Mpimbaza, the resident district commissioner for Bukwo said  the district is the most corrupt one in eastern Uganda, where people swindle  public funds without bearing it in mind that one day they will be caught.

Mr.Julius Chelimo the district chairperson Bukwo said he has inherited trouble in the district but vowed to clean it.

“I am happy that I have a hard working resident district commissioner who’s  working with our community anti-corruption members to get rid of corruption in the district,” he said.
