Entrance to Mulago Hospital has been restricted

23 police officers are admitted at Mulago Hospital following the Tuesday morning blasts in Kampala.

One of the explosions went off at 10 a.m., injuring police officers at the quarter guard and civilians who were standing under a tree shade between CPS and Kooki Towers along Buganda Road in the Kampala Central Business District. The second one went off near the IPS building along Parliament avenue.

Uganda Radio Network reporters at the casualty ward say that they had so far counted 17 police officers in the casualty ward. Some of the injured police officers at the hospital have been identified as;Richard Ogwal, Fred Katongole, Dennis Bibaluma, Benard Wabwire, Steven Osma, Masu Adyero, Fred Sentongo, Brian Ogyera , John Bosco Otai, Mino Sebunya, Phionah Nakasero , Allan Ayebare, Peter Eyotre, Robert Mukisa, Andrew Kissa and another only identified as George. Also a 34 year old female identified as Perepetwa Nakato a civilian has been admitted.

They had cuts to their heads, arms and stomachs. Some have broken limbs, while others are bleeding profusely. It is believed that they were brought from the Central Police Station-CPS, where the first blast went off.

The Uganda Redcross emergency medical team assembled at City Hall resuscitated 17 patients and discharged five while the rest were referred to Mulago Hospital. But the doctors at the hospital are also severely strained by the number of injured people coming in. The hospital has called in all available staff to help with the emergency as Ministry of Health and Mulago Hospital ambulances bring the injured in.

Entrance into the hospital has also been restricted. Patients that were admitted to the casualty ward have been transferred to other wards to create space for the bomb victims.
